Christmas Decorations for your Coffee Table

Dezember 21st 2016

Whether you prefer to keep your Christmas home interior decoration stylish and subtle, or are slightly more extravagant with your indoor Christmas decorations, coffee table decorating is the ideal way to introduce some festive cheer into your living room. With its prominent position in the room and focus naturally being drawn to this important piece of living room furniture, make the most of all the attention it receives with some of these Christmas decoration ideas.

Bringing the Outside In

During the Christmas period it is a nice touch to look to nature for some seasonal touches — not only will this breathe a fresh feeling into your home (at a time when many of us can start to feel a little stir crazy) but it is also a very cost-effective way of adding decoration.

Seasonal plants such as holly, berries, ivy and even off-cuts from your Christmas tree can all be crafted into striking indoor Christmas decorations. And it is not just plants that can be used for coffee table decorating. Fruits such as clementines and cranberries, or nuts, add little pops of colours when piled high in crisp white bowls, whilst a pretty display of pine cones adds an earthy, homely feel.

Use large bowls, a tray or other containers to hold your nature-inspired Christmas decorations neatly on your coffee table and to leave space for drinks and snacks to be placed when entertaining.

If you have opted for a more contemporary coffee table, you can still use natural decorations, but aim to style them in a more structured way — for example branches sprayed silver hung with baubles, or tapered candles in elegant holders surrounded by berries.

Candles

If ever there was a perfect time for going a little bit over-the-top with candles, then Christmas is it. Scented candles will fill your home with cosy winter fragrances and you can also co-ordinate your choices with the rest of your indoor Christmas decorations.

Although candles will really add to your coffee table decorating, those with pets or young children might want to consider using lanterns to hold them.

Surround your candles with festive foliage for a stunning centrepiece.

Light It Up

If using real candles on your coffee table isn’t practical but you are keen to include some twinkly lights in your Christmas home interior scheme, look to artificial methods of lighting up your coffee table instead.

Dainty strings of fairy lights wrapped around the edges of the table will really set the whole thing off (use battery operated if you are worried about trailing wires). Other uses for fairy lights include filling large glass bowls or vases with bundles of little lights.

Centrepiece Ideas

A festive centrepiece should form the basis for your Christmas decoration ideas— take inspiration from some of our favourite, simple to execute ideas.

  • Fill three small terracotta pots with moss and pop a pine cone, tapered candle or mini Christmas tree in the centre before wrapping each in ribbon and placing them along the centre of your coffee table
  • Quarter fill a glass hurricane vase with white pebbles, top with pine cones and pop a pillar candle in the centre of the whole thing
  • Fill a wooden box or tray with Christmas-inspired decorations, such as candles in glass jars, Christmas tree off-cuts, pine cones — even the odd bauble, reindeer or snowflake would look at home here

  • Buy a large wreath (or make one yourself) and rather than hang it up, place in centrally on your coffee table and place a candle in the centre
  • Use a metallic tray for displays of candles of various heights  — the flames will reflect and create a magical effect
