Furniture to Help Organise Your Home

Whether your home offers plenty of space or is more bijoux, furniture that doubles up as somewhere to store and organise your belongings makes sense, eliminating clutter at the same time as looking great.

Multi-tiered Coffee Tables

At the same time as providing a useful spot to rest your cup of coffee or magazine, coffee tables can also liaise as useful storage units.

Choose one with shelves or drawers underneath, such as the Retro Hoop Coffee Table from Zespoke, which can be customised with an optional glass shelf. Shelving integrated into coffee tables offers space for magazines and newspapers, CDs and the like, keeping essentials to hand but out of the way.

Using blanket boxes or chests as coffee tables is a popular option, but requires the surface of the table to be cleared of coasters, mugs and glasses before the contents can be accessed.

Entertainment Units with Storage

A television is no longer the only piece of entertainment equipment that most people have in their homes — they are now accompanied by games consoles, music players and other associated boxes and gadgets that we need for our viewing pleasure.

And all this means that a simple shelf or table will not suffice. Choose an entertainment unit or TV stand that offers space for all your equipment, as well as DVDs, remote controls and the like. Drawers and shelves are ideal, but look out for those that offer scope for cable management too, such as the Slot Media Unit from Zespoke, which has cut outs at the back of each shelf for wires to run down.

Hallway Organisation

Perhaps one of the clutter hot spots in most houses, the hallway is one of those places where all your essentials are often stored — or dumped.

Hooks for coats, baskets and boxes for footwear and somewhere for keys, post and bits and bobs all make life easier.

Wall-hung pigeonholes and cabinets are ideal for storing smaller items such as your keys and loose change, as our console tables. Opt for a slimline model to take up minimal space and dress it with decorative baskets and bowls, or magazine boxes for post.

Sometimes storage space can be found in unlikely places too — using a radiator cover to conceal an ordinary radiator also provides shelf spaces for hallway clutter.

Home Offices

Not all homes have the space for a dedicated home office, meaning that living rooms, guest bedrooms and even kitchens often have to double up as somewhere to work from home.

If this arrangement is going to work, storage is vital — meaning furniture that can house all your paperwork, your computer and anything else relating to your work is essential. If the furniture you choose can also do this discreetly and is capable of almost disappearing when not needed, all the better.

Computer consoles and writing bureaus with pull out shelves for desks or units that close up when not in use are ideal, as are nifty pieces such as Zespoke’s Computer Desk Narrow Nest which features a desk, space for your keyboard and seating all of which can be stacked one under another when not in use as a nest of tables.
